Keeping you safe

Security at the Museum is taken extremely seriously. The safety and security of our visitors and staff are paramount.

We also have a duty of care to protect our collections and buildings, so that they can be enjoyed by future generations.

When you visit you will see some of our security measures, but many more are operating behind the scenes. Our trained staff and security teams are here to greet you as you walk through the door and are inside our galleries to say hello, help explain our exhibitions and support you, to ensure you have the best possible experience throughout your visit. All our Front of House staff are trained to deal with emergencies and will assist help our visitors in every way possible.

We operate a bag searching policy: your bags may be searched when you arrive at the Museum. It doesn’t usually take long to pass through these checks, and we thank you for your patience when helping us with this important security task.

When you visit you’ll see some of our security measures, but many more are operating behind the scenes. We share our knowledge with other museums to improve visitor experiences across the city. We are also part of the Safer WestEnd Business Partnership.

Together with partner organisations around Covent Garden, we work with the Metropolitan Police’s Project Servator to protect London and everyone who lives, works or visits here. We are proud that our venues are also used to train police dog puppies, and to support the British Military Police’s close protection training.
