About the project

From June to August 2021, participants took part in creative workshops at the Museum in Covent Garden and the Depot in Acton. Inspired by the theme of ‘Journeys’ they explored the history of transport and learned from professional filmmakers at Holborn Community Association how to conceptualise, shoot and edit their own short film.

The group used the Museum’s unique collection at the Depot to understand the stories of people that have lived, travelled and worked in the city. This fed into the development of their imaginative narrative, which focused on women’s rights over time and was filmed on atmospheric vehicles at the Depot.

Production company

The group created their own production company Goat Pictures and took on roles on a professional film shoot such as directing, camera operation, sound and lighting, and also learnt skills in editing. They worked towards their Silver Arts Awards, and some of the cohort have subsequently gone on to study film at college or work experience within the film industry. Congratulations to all the young people involved.

About Holborn Community Association Summer Film Project

The Summer Film Project is part of HCA’s wider participatory Digital Media Project, funded by John Lyon’s Charity, which offers free creative activities for children and young people and aims to raise their aspirations as well as develop their creative digital skills and confidence.

The programme connects young people of different ages, cultures and ethnicities, fostering tolerance and friendships. It also offers opportunities that expose young people to new creative and digital experiences within local arts and cultural centres as well as career paths and progression routes within those fields.
