Description | This door lock is one of a number that were removed from the Metropolitan Railway's T- stock. It is made of brass and is ornately engraved with the phrase 'Live in Metro-Land'. For many years, the Metropolitan Railway (Met) kept a separate identity from the remaining Underground lines and operators of the Underground Group. The older-style carriages were used until the early 1960s, and door handles were a feature of the 'slam shut'-type doors common on the surface railway stock. 'Metro-Land' is the word invented by the Met to refer to the new suburbs that grew in northwest London as a direct result of the developing Metropolitan Railway line. |
