Description | A poster addressed to all able-bodied men advising them that the space at tube stations is limited and urging them to 'be a man' and leave it to the women, children and the infirm who need it most. During the Second World War, thousands of Londoners took shelter in deep-level Underground stations. Posters like these, discouraging able-bodied men from sheltering, were published by London Transport to ease overcrowding. The campaign did reduce numbers, successfully freeing up more space for women, children and the elderly, who needed it most. |
