Description | A long line of buses travels east along the Strand, one of the main arteries of the metropolis. An S-type bus waits while a policeman on point duty allows a horse-drawn cart belonging to the South Eastern and Chatham Railway and a van, to cross the Strand and travel up Wellington Street. On the right an ABC, or Aerated Bread Company tearooms, can be seen. ABC rivalled the more famous Joe Lyons tearooms. These were places where people could get their elevenses or a bite to eat for lunch. At the time, it was considered acceptable for women to eat here too, whether in company or alone. |
