Description | Most Underground stations have starter signals at the head of the platforms to tell the train operators when it is safe to move on. This is a prototype of a signal unit that was designed to be incorporated into the end or head wall of a station tunnel. The signal is of the 'three aspect' type, showing green, red or white lights, and was nicknamed 'harbour light' because the glass lenses are reminiscent of marine lanterns. It was made for use on the Victoria line. The brushed aluminium is typical of the Underground's architectural style during the 1960s. |
