Description | This Central London Railway photographic postcard, titled Shepherd's Bush Platform, looks down the platform and railway track. Large posters are pasted on the wall to the right. Passengers on the platform look towards the photographer. A large clock is mounted on the left wall, and an electric lamp hangs from the centre of the tunnel. The wooden platforms were 325 feet (99 metres) long, and the station tunnels covered with white tiles. The station opened in 1900. It was enlarged to cope with the increase in traffic when the line was extended to Wood Lane for the opening of the Franco-British Exhibition at White City. |
