Description | Tram and trolleybus staff roundel style cap badge, nickel plated with embossed inscription "LONDON TRANSPORT" across bar with pecking, infilled red enamel. This badge was issued to tram and trolleybus staff from mid 1934 and remained in use until becoming obsolete with the final demise of London's trolleybuses in May 1962. Variations occurred in the shade of red enamel used, ranging from deep orange-red, to pillar box red. Early badge were of solid brass or nickel plated base metal (as here), and later examples were chrome plated (Lawrence, 1989, p.84). |
