Description | In 1940, the Home Guard was set up throughout the UK. Within London Transport (L.T.), Home Guard units were established to help protect the hundreds of targets such as garages, stations, railway lines and power plants. This is an unused cloth badge as issued to L.T.Home Guard from 1943. Made of fabric with an embroidered design, it would have been sewn onto both shoulders of the uniform. The badge was issued only to those serving with the London Passenger Transport Board. Some volunteers for the L.T. Home Guard - which at its height counted nearly 30,000 employees - were veterans of previous wars. The Home Guard units were called battalions: and London Transport was made up of seven battalions. |
