Description
This enamel directional sign, dating from around 1933, is from the entrance to Surrey Docks Underground station. The design includes the Mexican arrow, which integrates the roundel, so reinforces the corporate image. The style was possibly introduced when Surrey Docks was resigned by London Passenger Transport Board as part of the takeover from the Metropolitan Railway. Surrey Docks was renamed Surrey Quays in 1989 and is on the East London line.
