Item content Attribute Value Object title Farewell to steam on the UndergroundText Farewell / to Steam / ON THE UNDERGROUND / On Sunday, June 6 the last of the long line of standard-gauge steam locomotives which have served the / Underground since 1863 will make a farewell run on the Metropolitan Line. From the last ten year these / engines have been used solely to haul London Transport works trains and for shunting in depots. / The special commemorative ‘run’ will take place during the afternoon from Moorgate to Neasden Depot. / The train, hauled by a veteran 0-6-0 tank locomotive, will include many rarely-seen wagons. / A Souvenir Ticket (£1; children under 14, 50p) will be issued in limited numbers to admit you to the / platforms at Barbican or Farringdon, where you are invited to photograph this unique event. It also entitles / you to ride in a special follow-up train running directly to Neasden, and gives you the unlimited travel for / the day on Underground trains. Afterwards there is an Open Day featuring old and new Underground / rolling stock at Neasden Depot, to which the Souvenir Ticket gives admission. / Come and pay your respects at the end of an era. / Apply for your ticket by writing to the London Transport Fares Office, 55 Broadway, S.W.I. / You must apply beforehand (with remittance). / Remember, numbers have to be strictly limited and applications must be dealt on a ‘first come, first served’ basis. / A special full colour souvenir booklet ‘The Last Drop’ will be on sale (50p) at the show. / 1863-1971 -
