Description | This poster advertises Marble Hill House, the 18th-century Palladian mansion by the Thames at Twickenham. It suggests travelling by Underground, British Rail or Green Line coach to Richmond, and then either walking along the riverside or catching the bus. The painting by Robert Flavell Micklewright shows a view of the house from the Thames. Marble Hill House was built for Henrietta Howard, Countess of Suffolk and one time mistress of George II. It was saved from demolition at the beginning of the 20th century and bought by London County Council. Later it was taken over by English Heritage and it became part of The Twickenham Museum. |
