Description
Underground Group staff arrive at the Royal Albert Hall for the Victory Celebrations in June 1919, following the end of World War One. A man is wearing his Scottish regimental bonnet. The staff are being cheered and waved at by onlookers lining the street. The buses belong to the London General Omnibus Company. Some of the men on the buses are using crutches, perhaps because they were wounded in action. These men would have been among the 15,000 troops that marched on the Victory Parade watched by hundreds of thousands of people. Many of the onlookers came from outside London and had spent a night in the capital's parks and streets to be sure of a good vantage point.
