Description
The eastern end of the Strand in 1887, looking east from Exeter Street. White notes that this shot shows the Strand at its original width. This is a busy street scene with Haxell's Hotel and Exeter Hall to the left of the shot, and Simpson's and the Exeter Hall Restaurant to the right of the shot. There is much traffic on the road, mainly hansom cabs and horses and carts. There are also many pedestrians walking along the left side of the road.

    The photograph shows the Strand at its original width. On left Haxell's Hotel and Exeter Hall; on right Terry's Theatre (with projecting balcony) and, west of it, the original Simpson's Restaurant and other premises that were demolished to make way for the Savoy Hotel.
