Description
Construction of the District Railway, near South Kensington. A large number of navvies are standing in a shallow cutting, whose walls are undergoing excavation. In the background, the tunnel arch has been constructed, and is awaiting removal of internal soil. A steam locomotive, on a temporary railway, is shown with a portable steam generator in use.
