Description
Women baking bread at the open-air (or "Aldershot") ovens of an emergency kitchen at Chiswick Works while female bus conductors look on. When the ovens reached a certain temperature, the fire was withdrawn and the food was put in. It cooked slower than in a conventional oven, but just as well. The Works provided 2000 meals a day for staff.
