Description | Photograph is taken from shaft no.2 where squareworks timbering has been broken out from the shaft to create a box from which to build the cast iron rings of access tunnel no.2 which has progressed six rings in the direction of the shot. The skin of the box is made of "faceboards" restrained at intervals by "face walers" which appear to be approximately 9 x 3 inches. These are stubbed off the cast iron lining of the access tunnel no.2. The face of clay is visible in the bottom left hand corner of the shot with the texture left by the excavation of a clay spade visible. |
