Description | Passimeters are free-standing ticket kiosks built for Underground station booking halls. This, which is one of the smaller versions designed by Charles Holden, was installed at Hainault station on the Central line, in 1948. The green marbled lino on the lower section facade suggests that this is a post-war design, since the pre-war passimeters had a white marbled finish. Passimeters were introduced in the 1920s when some stations had their booking offices rebuilt nearer to the platform entrances. They varied a little in size and design but remained in use until the 1980s. |
