On Monday 20 September 2021, the Northern line was extended at Kennington, by 3km, to Nine Elms and Battersea Power Station.

As I was volunteering at the Museum that day, I couldn’t resist a visit after work. Myself and Dad made our way from Covent Garden to Tottenham Court Road station to take advantage of the step free access onto the Northern line.

On arrival at the new Battersea Power Station Underground station, I was able to get a photo of myself with a Tube driver, and we then took the lift to street level. At the top, there were many enthusiasts exploring and taking photos of the new stations. It was wonderful to bump into my friend Mari, who used to work at London Transport Museum.

We then made our way to the actual Battersea Power Station, which is now the centrepiece of a £9 billion project on the banks of the Thames. We read on the Evening Standard that a 3-bedroom penthouse at the Power Station went on sale for £8.2million. Looks like we won’t be moving from Norwich to Battersea then!

Against Dad’s advice, I thought it would be nice to take the bus back from Battersea to Southwark,  as this only involved a 12-minute walk from the bus stop to our hotel. It seemed like a good idea at the time but as we didn’t know which bus stop to actually get off at, we ended up walking for over an hour! Dad was not best pleased when we got back to the hotel!

I hope you enjoyed looking at the photos I took at Battersea Power Station.
