Every year the Christmas elves in the Museum’s Retail team get to work early to create new designs for our much-loved jumpers and Christmas range. Lucky for them, they’ve got our amazing collection of posters and historic vehicles to draw inspiration from!

On this year’s Christmas jumper reindeer are pulling Santa on an open top bus filled with gifts. The original idea for this fun design came from this London Transport’s poster by Edward Purser Lancaster, Christmas Greetings, from 1947

The open top bus carrying all the gifts is a knitted version of the B340 bus in our collection, on display at our Museum Depot in Acton. This iconic B type motor bus is one of the first three vehicles that originated our collection when they were preserved by the London General Omnibus Company in the 1920s, the other two being the Thomas Tilling ‘Knifeboard’ type horse bus and the ‘Garden Seat’ type horse bus.
